We all found ways to endure the past couple of years. I knew my “comfort zone” would include lots of painting, but I also knew I needed a focus. I found my “therapy” in painting bicycles, in finding interesting ways to depict one of our favorite modes of recreation, transportation, competition, exercise, adventure and just plain fun.
Some of these paintings are practically “portraits”, the major focus being the bike; others suggest that there is a story behind the image. That is for you to decide. Besides a bunch of people (there are 54 – recognize anyone?) in the paintings, you will see seven dogs, one horse, and 41 bicycles. Most scenes are settings that may be familiar to you …. some are favorite places in New England, many are local Berkshire scenes and even a few are in Ireland. And some are totally fictitious … imagined by the artist.
About half of the paintings are traditional watercolor, matted and framed behind glass. The others are watercolor on canvas …. once finished these paintings are sprayed and made permanent, and are then framed and hung without glass, just like an oil. If you think my style varies a bit from wc on paper to canvas, it is because painting on canvas is a totally different animal….fun, but also challenging.
Enjoy the trip…..it was a treat creating this journey!
