One of the longest-standing and most respected traditional jazz groups, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, opened the first Pittsfield CityJazz Festival in 2005, returning to the Berkshires twice since then. Playing together since 1971, the Grammy-nominated band gets rave reviews wherever it performs, which covers the whole globe. Perhaps the most telling comment is this, from the respected N.Y. Times critic John S. Wilson: “So far ahead of other traditional bands…there is scarcely any basis for comparison.”
Inspiration: We have been followers of the New Black Eagles Jazz Band since our Upton, Mass days, more than 25 years ago. Reference photos used for the drawing and painting were taken by Richard Dunne during the first Pittsfield CityJazz Festival in 2005.
